Phase two orthodontics is part of the two-phase orthodontics treatment plan. This is done once the patient has most of their adult teeth. Or, when the patient’s 12-year molars are ready to grow.
But what can a patient expect during this phase?
Phase Two Orthodontics
This is the time the patient gets a full-mouth of brace or Invisalign. This normally depends on the patient’s choice.
Braces are adjusted each month depending on your teeth’s movement. Most often, phase two lasts for 18 to 24 months. Some may last throughout the patient’s adolescence or even their teenage years.
It may depend on the severity of the case.
Types of Braces
There are different types of braces:
- Traditional brace – This includes metal brackets and wires. These are made lighter and smaller than before. Each month, it will be adjusted by your orthodontist. You can choose to have colorful elastic ties on the brackets. These can be changed each month depending on your choice.
- Clear brace – This is a newer type of braces. The brackets are made from a composite material or ceramic that blends in with the teeth. It costs a little more since it can be unnoticeable.
- Lingual brace – This is the most unnoticeable brace as it’s hidden in the back of the teeth.
- Clear braces/Invisalign – This is a series of customized clear trays that are almost invisible. It is removable and only needs to be worn for 22 hours a day. You can remove it when eating and brushing your teeth.
Conclusion
Phase two orthodontics should only be done by a licensed orthodontist in Portland, OR. It’s best that they are checked by the same orthodontist that did the first phase.
