However, do we brush our teeth before or after breakfast? The answer is either. There is nothing wrong with brushing before or after eating breakfast. It depends on how you have adapted to your routine. Some people also don’t eat at home, so they brush their teeth first and then eat after they’ve left the house.
Brushing before eating
However, let’s take a look at the positives of brushing your teeth before eating breakfast.
Our mouth is practically filled with microscopic organisms that pose a threat to our immune system. One of the reasons we brush our teeth is to lower the number of bacteria in our mouths significantly. With lower levels of bacteria, there are fewer chances that they will enter our system as we eat our food.
There will also be less acid entering our body, which could be beneficial for our bodies.
Brushing after eating
Similarly, brushing your teeth after eating can do the same. It cleans the bacteria along with the sugar and starch of the food we ate, and prevent both cavities and tooth decay, which can help decrease the level of acid in our mouth.
There is at least 20 minutes before bacteria can attack the enamel of our teeth. By brushing right after you eat, you can avoid this. However, if you have eaten anything with acid like oranges, lemons, and citrus fruits, you should wait at least 30 minutes before you can brush your teeth.
Brushing your teeth as soon as you have eaten acidic food may weaken your teeth’s enamel, which, in turn, weakens your teeth’s defense.
